Alexanderplatz in Berlin has always been a melting pot of cultural influences and it is one of the most historic places in the city. It is also an important hub for traffic. Until the mid-19th century, military parades were held and military drill was practised on Alexanderplatz. Since it was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, it had to be redesigned afterwards. Since reunification, Alexanderplatz has once again become a lively and exciting place in the centre of the capital.
